The Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore, commonly known as Il Redentore, is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church located on Giudecca in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, in the city of Venice, Italy. The Festa del Redentore is one of the most important traditional events in Venice. It celebrates the end of the plague of the 16th century and is a yearly event.

So taking these stunning Gondola’s on a racing tour is a must-see.

The Redentore celebration in Venice is one of the oldest and most popular festivals in Venice.

Most people would not choose to visit Giudecca in the sestiere of Dorsoduro.  But this is the perfect time to do so.

One of the most spectacular parts of the festival is a temporary floating bridge is erected. So people can walk to the Il Redentore, which is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church over the weekend. Normally you can only access this by taxi boat.

The locals flock to the church to pray and have mass. Normally there are fireworks too but due to Covid 19 it was cancelled.

The bridge is behind these Gondola’s and the main traffic when the race is not on can still access the city.

Venice is a city of rich color this was replicated with the Gondola’s racing.

Gondola Racing

On Saturday there is a small parade of musical boats that sail the sea for entertainment which is a lot of fun.

Unlike the traditional Gondola, as we know it, these racing Gondola’s are colourful.

The highlight is the Sunday boat racing. The Gondola’s are modified for the race.

The setting is spectacular.

The race is two men in the boat with an ore each and they row as fast as they can. To identify each team a different colourful Gondola is used. They look adorable on the sea.

I would have to say it is one of the most spectacular boat races in the world when it comes to a visual perspective.

Look at beautiful Venice in the background.

I loved the pink Gondola. As moral support sailing alongside the Gondola’s is locals with their boats which adds to the atmosphere.

Fashion Uniform

The men wore striped nautic t-shirts termed with white chinos and black flipper style shoes for grip. This just added to the visual effects of looking at the race.

As they were racing the backdrop of Venice was just like a fairytale. There were tables where I could eat and drink and watch this spectacular Gondola race.

No, where in the world can this ever be replicated.

What are the Gondola trainers used during racing?

La Dolce Vita

Venice is an open-air museum which we must all treasure. I am loving how the city is quiet and getting a rest. I am passionate about highlighting Italy for what it is. A sweet life that is rich in culture, food, and ambience.
